Dropping odds and odds movement: see how the odds change before kick-off
Dropping odds are odds that get shorter before a match starts: the market now sees that side as more likely to win than when the odds opened. When the odds get longer instead, they are drifting. Both are an odds movement, and BetClutch follows them for every football, tennis and basketball match in the app.
What BetClutch shows you
For each match, the app keeps the opening odds and puts them next to the current odds. As soon as the gap passes the threshold you chose, you get an alert, whichever way the odds moved.

- The size of the move, in percent. Every match in the pre-match list shows the change between opening and current odds.
- Your threshold, sport by sport. You might want an alert from 20% in football and only from 30% in basketball.
- The day's odds moves in one list, filtered by sport and by size, with the time of each alert.
- The odds history of each match: a chart of how the odds moved before and during the game, with the key moments (goal, set lost, red card) marked on it.
A real example: Liverpool v Manchester City
Premier League, Sunday 11 October 2026, at Anfield. When the market opened a week earlier, the match was close to a coin flip: Liverpool 2.55, draw 3.60, Manchester City 2.45.
Then the odds moved one way, day after day: Liverpool drifted, City shortened.
- Sunday 4 October, market opens: Liverpool 2.55, draw 3.60, City 2.45.
- Friday 9 October: Liverpool 3.00, draw 3.70, City 2.30.
- Match day, 3:43 pm (UK time): Liverpool 3.40, draw 3.60, City 2.10.
- Kick-off, 4:30 pm: Liverpool 3.30, draw 3.75, City 2.05.
Liverpool's odds rose by 33% from the opening price, City's dropped by 14%. BetClutch keeps the larger of the two moves. With a 20% threshold for football, the alert would have come early on match day, when Liverpool reached 3.10. With a 30% threshold, it would have come at 3:43 pm, 47 minutes before kick-off.
City won 3-0. The first half ended goalless; Liverpool went down to ten men after the hour and City scored three times in the second half. The market had leaned towards City all week, and here it was right. It is not always: an odds movement shows what the market thinks, not what will happen.
Following the odds after kick-off
An odds movement does not stop at the start of the match. On the match page, the odds chart shows how the odds of both sides moved during the match, and the alerts and key moments of the match sit underneath it. You see when the odds turned, and what turned them.

What BetClutch does not do
- No predictions. An odds movement tells you that the market changed its mind, not who will win.
- No bets. BetClutch is not a bookmaker and does not place bets for you.
- No AI. Every number comes from the odds and the match data.
- No odds comparison across bookmakers. BetClutch follows how the odds of a match move over time, not which bookmaker pays the most.
Without an account, BetClutch sends you up to 3 “favorite losing” alerts and 1 big odds move (30% or more) a day, for free; Pro unlocks every alert, with a 10-day trial and no charge at the end. The app is available on iPhone and Android. It is an information and analysis app for adults only. Bet responsibly.
Questions about odds movement
What are dropping odds?
Dropping odds are odds that get shorter between the moment a market opens and the start of the match, for example from 2.10 to 1.80. The opposite move, when odds get longer, is called drifting. BetClutch tracks both.
How is the odds movement calculated?
BetClutch compares the opening odds with the current odds of each side and shows the change as a percentage. Odds going from 2.55 to 3.40 make a move of 33%. The larger move of the two sides is the one that counts.
Which sports and markets are covered?
Football (soccer), tennis and basketball, on the match-winner odds of both sides. The draw is not tracked.
Can I choose when I get an alert?
Yes. You set your own threshold, sport by sport, and you can switch each alert on or off. The list in the app has its own filter, so you can browse smaller moves without receiving more notifications.
Does BetClutch tell me what to bet?
No. BetClutch is not a bookmaker, takes no bets and gives no predictions. It shows you how the odds moved and lets you decide.
